Newbs On The Mat

It’s been nice to see some new faces at Grizzly Gym BJJ.  As with every year, this can probably be attributed to new students at Queens University and/or St Lawrence College.  Kingston is a school city, so when the students go for the summer, the numbers drop off at the gym.  I like rolling with new people.  I’ve said it before, I’ll roll with the newbs when others won’t.  I find it fun.  You get to see that look of terror as a choke is being (gently) applied, and the look of understanding when something clicks.  Plus it makes me feel like I am good to get submissions.  lol

I’ve been on the mats twice this week.  I’m looking to go tonight as well.  My legs are really stiff and I’m exhausted from lack of sleep, but I’ll feel guilty if I don’t go.  Maybe I can guilt myself in to being competent.  I also ordered a new gi this week; The Guardian from Veni Vidi Vici.  I’m looking forward to getting it.  I’ve become online friends with one of the owners.  He seems like a really good guy and I think it’s going to be a quality kimono. I gave away my VHTS (Very Hard To Submit) gi because I looked like the “fat guy in a little coat” scene from Tommy Boy…

On a sad note, my wife has had an injury to her wrist.  Severe pain and swelling.  She has had to step away from Muay Thai because punching causes her excruciating pain.  The gym suffers without her.  Not only does she run a great cardio/technical class, but she cleans the gym.  Without her, it’s a disgusting.  Sigh…  I hope she gets better soon.  I feel horrible when she is in pain.

The end.
