Have you seen all the snow that has been falling at Lake Louise, Kicking Horse, Revelstoke, Whistler, etc, etc? Oh man! I just sit back and drool.

Warren Miller used to say at the end of his movies that if you don’t go to *insert ski resort here* this season, you’ll be one year older next season… or something along those lines. I lay in bed thinking about this every night. I have the wills and desires of a young man, but the body of a 40-year-old. Fact is, it’s going to be harder and harder to fulfill my dreams of mountain (not hill) skiing in the years to come. With the kids getting older and being involved in more activities, time is at a premium.
Also, the price of travel has pretty much passed me by. I don’t know how people do it. Credit maybe? Squaw Valley can’t be filled by people who can’t afford to be there, can it? Should I work my ass off for 50 weeks a year, only to be a miserable fuck to my family, just so we can go on a vacation that the kids (and me too) will remember for the rest of their lives? Then again, is it worth it to work my ass off 50 weeks a year and be a miserable fuck, only to sit at home on my vacation? I don’t know. I have a wife who really isn’t interested in being outside in the winter. She’d rather take vacations in hot weather. That’s not even close to my idea of a vacation (I figure I’ll get enough heat in hell when I die). I have no interest in the 3rd world vacations. To me, that’s just wasting money. I actually passed on a free trip to Jamaica for two that my wife won from a radio contest. She was pretty mad but ended up going with a friend. I stayed at home and took care of the kids.
Yes, I’m a strange person. That’s probably why I usually go skiing (and everything else) by myself.
